How much beer do you need?
Share
We’ve all been there: a party in full swing, guests laughing, music blasting—and then, disaster strikes. The beer runs out. Nothing kills the vibe faster than scrambling to find drinks mid-event. Don’t let that happen to you!
Whether you’re hosting a backyard BBQ, wedding, birthday bash, or office gathering, planning ahead is the key to keeping the good times flowing. But how much beer is enough? Let’s break it down so you can avoid the chaos and enjoy a smooth, stress-free event.
Beer Math: How Much Do You Really Need?
Here’s the rule: plan for 4 schooners (425ml) per guest. It may sound like a lot, but trust us, running out halfway through the night is worse. So how many kegs do you need?
• 50L keg = 115 schooners
• 20L keg = 45 schooners
You can use this guide to calculate the ideal amount of beer:

Choose the right kegerator
Your kegerator isn’t just about storage; it’s about creating an experience. A small Series X kegerator holds 1x 50L keg and 2x 20L kegs. The mid-sized Series X Plus allows for 2x 50L kegs or up to 6x 20L kegs. For larger gatherings, the Grand Deluxe Double kegerator fits 3x 50L kegs or 8x 20L kegs.
Pro tip: Stay above -2°C unless you enjoy beer popsicles.

Don’t forget the taps
How many taps do you need? The more taps, the faster the pours and the more variety you can offer. Got a crowd that loves beer and cider? Or maybe someone’s keen on cocktails? Multiple taps allow you to serve it all without missing a beat.

Not ready to commit? Hire a draught beer system
Still not sure if you need to buy? Why not hire a draught beer system for your event instead? If you’re hosting a one-off party or special occasion, hiring a system might be the smarter option. Check out our options in KegHire.
